Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Drill and Blast Supervisor to lead and oversee drilling and blasting activities, ensuring safe, compliant and cost-effective outcomes across site operations.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage drill and blast activities to meet safety, environmental and production requirements
  • Lead and supervise crews and contractors, ensuring alignment with site standards and KPI’s
  • Coordinate and deliver pre-start meetings, shift handovers and critical operational communications
  • Monitor blasting performance, analyse outcomes and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements, including explosives legislation and site procedures
  • Oversee drill pattern quality, stemming activities and blast execution standards
  • Conduct inspections, audits and field supervision to maintain safe and efficient work practices
  • Manage consumables and costs, driving efficiency and minimising waste
  • Coach and mentor team members to build capability and improve performance outcomes

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in drill and blast within an open-cut coal mining environment
  • Strong leadership capability with the ability to coach, mentor and drive team performance
  • Sound understanding of NSW explosives legislation, safety systems and statutory compliance
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, crews and competing operational priorities
  • Experience with blast design, overburden and pre-strip blasting techniques highly regarded
  • Current NSW Shotfirer Licence and relevant G competencies (G1, G2, G8, G9) preferred
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across operational teams
  • Solid planning and organisational skills with a focus on continuous improvement

Nice to have

  • Experience with blast design, overburden and pre-strip blasting techniques
  • Current NSW Shotfirer Licence and relevant G competencies (G1, G2, G8, G9)
