HF Sinclair in El Dorado, KS is seeking a Superintendent Laboratory. This position directs key functions of the Refining Laboratory Department, fostering a positive, inclusive work culture while leading high-performing teams to deliver accurate, reproducible, and timely laboratory results.

Job Responsibility:

  • Directs key functions of the Refining Laboratory Department, fostering a positive, inclusive work culture while leading high-performing teams to deliver accurate, reproducible, and timely laboratory results
  • Requires a high level of leadership competence and the ability to address and resolve personnel issues effectively
  • Manages the overall operation of the Laboratory personnel including goal setting and personnel development
  • Ensures the quality of raw materials, intermediate products and finished products by performing chemical and physical analysis
  • Understands, performs and troubleshoots all laboratory testing methods
  • Manages sample loads and laboratory staff, training and coordinating the work of chemists and technicians to provide high quality laboratory services, product quality coordination, technical service and all analytical testing to both internal and external customers
  • Manages the continual development of QA/QC (i.e., training, equipment, etc.) for all products produced at the plant
  • Develops and manages laboratory budget including capital and expense items
  • Manages preventative and corrective maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Responsible for lab building and peripheral support areas assigned to lab
  • Responsible for release/approval for shipments, and certification that all Sunoco and customer specifications are met
  • May be responsible for maintaining and enforcing company ISO requirements and philosophy throughout the production lab to demonstrate conformance to ISO-9001 and RC14001 certifications, as well as environmental testing in accordance with ODEQ
  • and compliance with EPA Anti-dumping and Tier II Sulfur Regulations
  • Assist refinery troubleshooting efforts from a laboratory perspective
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of laboratory experience, including five years of supervisory experience is required
  • Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience of hourly/shift employees
  • Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or Engineering or equivalent work experience is required
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of other associates
  • High level analytical skills
  • good understanding of statistics and SPC in lab and product context
  • Familiarity with analytical equipment and information management systems
  • Computer literate
  • Strong background in supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication
  • Intermediate reading and writing skills, and with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Preferred Skills: Current knowledge of petroleum analytical and/or environmental testing
  • General knowledge of refinery processes, products, etc
  • Quality Management or Management Systems Training
  • RC 14001
