The 10-week summer Nurse Extern program is primarily for nursing students who live in Central Georgia, go to school outside of Central Georgia, and are interested in working at Atrium Health upon graduation. This program gives these students the opportunity to gain experience at Atrium Health Navicent while home for the summer and during other school breaks. For the summer program, Nurse Externs will be hired to one of 6 specialties: Cardiac, Neuro, Medical, Ortho/Trauma, Pediatrics, or Women’s Services. Hiring into specialty-specific service lines allows the Nurse Extern to choose a specialty they are interested in while also being exposed to different levels of care provided within that specialty. Nurse Externs will primarily work in units within their service line but will also rotate through all areas and specialties in the hospital throughout the 10-week program. For each service line, the Nurse Extern will have the opportunity to shadow in outpatient and specialty care units within their selected specialty. The 10-week program will run from May 18th until July 24th, and the summer nurse externs must be available to work the entirety of the program.
