King’s College, The British School of Madrid (Soto de Viñuelas) is seeking responsible and energetic Residential Monitors to support student wellbeing, supervision and activity delivery during the Summer Camp programme running from 25 June to 25 July. Reporting to the Residential Director, and when required to the Deputy or Course Director, the post-holder will act in loco parentis, providing continuous pastoral care, maintaining routines within the boarding environment and supporting academic, activity and evening programmes. This is a demanding residential role requiring flexibility, teamwork and a strong commitment to safeguarding, with staff expected to support students throughout the day and during evening and night duties on a rota basis.
Job Responsibility:
Provide excellent pastoral care and ensure students’ physical, emotional and social wellbeing at all times
Supervise groups of 10–15 students aged 8–16 during activities, evening programmes and residential routines
Plan and lead sports, games and recreational activities across different age groups and ability levels
Be responsible for a dormitory group, running daily dorm sessions and providing emotional support when required
Ensure students are never left unattended, including during off-site excursions
Chaperone excursions, following all safety and safeguarding procedures
Support daily routines including wake-ups, meals, breaks, pool supervision and night monitoring as part of a rota
Manage medication distribution in line with camp protocols
Support airport transfers when required
Attend all training days, safeguarding sessions and staff meetings
Follow all school procedures, staff handbook guidelines, uniform standards, and health and safety regulations
Be flexible and available to support the wider camp team when unexpected situations arise
Requirements:
English language level C1–C2
Minimum 1 year of experience working with children or in summer camps
Ability to supervise residential groups of 10–15 children aged 8–16
Experience planning and leading sports, games and evening activity programmes
Ability to develop and plan activities across different sports and age groups
Experience supporting children emotionally and managing dormitory routines
Ability to follow safety protocols and respond appropriately to incidents
Ability to chaperone excursions and supervise students off-site
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as part of a residential rota
Ability to manage medication distribution following camp procedures
Strong communication and teamwork skills
High school diploma required
