We’ll give you hands-on projects and the chance to create an immediate impact. The AI Platform Engineering team builds the foundational systems that power AI across T-Mobile. We design and operate shared platforms that make it easy, safe, and reliable for teams to deploy and scale AI-powered applications. Interns work on real infrastructure used by multiple teams, improving reliability, developer experience, and operational excellence. Your work enables AI engineers to move faster while meeting enterprise-scale requirements.
Job Responsibility:
Prototype AI platform capabilities focused on Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) communication
Build proof-of-concept solutions that demonstrate how agents share context, coordinate, and operate across systems
Evaluate design patterns, tradeoffs, and developer experience for emerging AI platform standards
Produce working prototypes and documentation that inform future platform and product decisions
Build shared platform components and reference implementations that enable agent coordination, context propagation, and integration across services
Design and prototype observability for AI platforms, including tracing agent interactions, context flow, and failure modes
Evaluate platform-level concerns such as scalability, reliability, and developer experience for emerging AI standards
Requirements:
Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience in Python, Java, Go, or TypeScript
Interest in AI platform engineering concepts, including agent-based systems and context management
Familiarity with LLM-powered applications and agent frameworks (usage and integration, not model training)
Understanding of APIs, distributed system basics, and platform observability concepts
Exposure to Docker, cloud platforms, and collaborative development workflows
At least 18 years of age
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Must be actively enrolled in a Bachelors or Graduate degree program
Employees of T-Mobile or Metro by T-Mobile are ineligible for Internships
Employer does not sponsor work visas for this position
