As a Group Leader on Olsson’s Substation & Power Generation team, you will lead a skilled group of professionals focused on designing safe, reliable, and future‑ready power infrastructure. This role is ideal for a leader who excels in mentorship, technical guidance, strategic planning, and who enjoys building strong client relationships while connecting daily project work to broader team and organizational goals.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead and mentor a team of supervisors and technical staff, supporting growth and development across all experience levels
  • Foster a culture of open communication, trust, collaboration, and alignment with the Substation & Power Generation team’s vision
  • Oversee project execution and quality assurance to ensure successful delivery of substation design projects
  • Monitor group performance, workload, and utilization to identify improvement opportunities and implement strategies that enhance efficiency
  • Guide process development and resource planning to support operational excellence across project lifecycles
  • Serve as a client‑facing leader, building strong relationships and representing Olsson with professionalism and deep technical understanding
  • Help team members connect their technical contributions to the broader goals and long‑term direction of the Substation & Power Generation team and the organization

Requirements

  • At least four years of experience supervising technical personnel, with a demonstrated ability to lead through others and support teams across varying experience levels
  • 8+ years of technical experience in substation design or related high-voltage electrical infrastructure
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred. An associate degree with equivalent experience will also be considered

  • Support the Company’s electric system operators by optimizing the distribution system using the distribution network advanced functionality of DMS which include Automatic Feeder Reconfiguration (AFR), Load Volt/VAR Management (LVM), Planned Outage Study and DER/Load Forecasting
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in real time technologies such as ADMS, SCADA, DER dispatching, energy storage, microgrids, Volt/Var Optimization and load shedding
  • Collaborate with system operations control centers, IT, and engineering resources to ensure DMS functionality and future enhancements
  • Support the specification and configuration of DMS advanced applications such as FLISR, LVM, AFR, and Load and Generation Scheduling
  • Support the development of project approval documentation with need statement, scope, description of technical solution, alternatives considered, risks and mitigations, budget, and schedule
  • Participate in the investigation of new technologies and tools in the industry and assess the relevance of and benefit to the Company’s system operations control rooms
