An opportunity has arisen for a Substantive Consultant Radiologist with a sub-specialist interest in Paediatric Imaging, Urology, or Interventional Radiology to join a general radiology team delivering consultant-led services. The post holder will support general radiology reporting alongside their subspecialty interest and contribute to the Acute Admissions Unit (AAU) radiology rota, including extended hours acute imaging services.
Job Responsibility:
Provide consultant-led radiology services, including general and subspecialty reporting
Deliver paediatric imaging and reporting (where applicable)
Participate in non-emergency diagnostic Ultrasound, CT and MRI reporting
Support the extended hours of the Acute Admissions Unit (AAU) imaging service
Participate in weekend AAU rota commitments (approximately 1:18)
Maintain continuing responsibility for patients in their care, including administrative duties
Ensure evidence-based practice and adherence to clinical quality standards
Liaise effectively with clinicians, GPs, community services, and multidisciplinary teams
Participate in AAU weekday rota (08:30–18:30, Monday–Friday)
Support weekend acute imaging services (on-site commitment during rota weekends)
Contribute to the general acute imaging workload
Contribute to the development and organisation of radiology services in line with the divisional strategy
Support imaging service development initiatives
Participate in departmental management and work closely with the Clinical Director and Divisional leadership
Maintain professional independence in clinical matters
Teach undergraduate and postgraduate trainees (Radiology and non-Radiology)
Participate in departmental teaching programmes, audit meetings, and educational sessions
Support postgraduate medical training across the Trust
Demonstrate presentation skills and contribution to academic forums
Participate in audit programmes and quality improvement initiatives
Contribute to research and development activities within radiology
Demonstrate incident reporting awareness and understanding of NHS complaints systems
Maintain CPD and Personal Development Plan in accordance with Royal College requirements
Participate in clinical governance and risk management processes
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
FRCR or equivalent
CCT/CCST (or within 6 months of interview) or inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
Extensive experience in General Radiology
Experience in Paediatric Radiology (or relevant subspecialty area)
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for radiological reporting
Understanding of NHS complaints systems and incident reporting
Demonstrates honesty, integrity and ethical awareness
Strong multidisciplinary teamwork skills
Effective communication and presentation skills
Audit experience
Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
Nice to have:
MRCP or FRCS
European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR) (where relevant)
