Subject Access Request Caseworker – Information Governance. Are you a highly organised individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for protecting people’s information rights? We’re looking for a Subject Access Request Caseworker to join the Information Governance Team at Tameside Council and play a key role in ensuring compliance with data protection legislation. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced environment where accuracy, confidentiality, and strong organisational skills are essential. You’ll help ensure that the Council meets its legal obligations while supporting transparency and trust with residents. The Role As a Subject Access Request Caseworker, you will support the day-to-day delivery of Information Governance across the Council, ensuring robust compliance with data protection legislation. A key focus of the role will be handling Subject Access Requests (SARs) and other information rights requests, including the careful review and redaction of sensitive information to ensure legal compliance and confidentiality. You’ll work closely with internal teams across the organisation to retrieve information from various systems, manage statutory deadlines, and ensure all requests are processed accurately and efficiently.
Job Responsibility:
Process Subject Access Requests (SARs) and third-party access to records in line with data protection legislation
Manage statutory timescales for requests, ensuring responses are completed within legal deadlines
Coordinate the extraction of information from multiple systems across the Council
Review and redact sensitive information in accordance with legal exemptions and confidentiality requirements
Maintain accurate records of information requests and their outcomes
Produce management information reports and support data analysis when required
Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to ensure effective communication and compliance
Requirements:
5 GCSEs (Grade A–C or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics
Experience processing Subject Access Requests within a local government setting
Knowledge of data protection legislation, national guidance, and redaction practices
Experience of third-party redaction and applying legal exemptions
Ability to analyse and manipulate data
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
Experience working in a busy office environment
Confident using Microsoft Office and computer-based systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and under pressure
High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
Nice to have:
