Job Description:

A VMEC Sub-System Lead Specialist (SSLS) develops some of General Motor’s most advanced and exciting mobility features. This dynamic role supports innovative technology development applicable to aspects of electric and traditional internal combustion applications in the Chassis Vehicle Dynamics domain for features such as trailer braking controls. The SSLS is an individual contributor with recognized expertise responsible for tasks and work throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution. The SSLS role will be specifically for the requirements development of the Integrated Trailer Braking Controls for EVs and for ICE vehicles.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform complex sub-system analysis to define functional controls and hardware requirements
  • Leverage physical and virtual environments to establish and test use cases and acceptance criteria
  • Create and maintain Behavioral Test Specification (BTS) documents
  • Create and maintain sub-system specifications in requirements management software
  • Root cause all applicable sub-system related issues and translate solutions into new or revised requirements
  • Create and maintain Functional Architecture Documents (FADs)/Context Diagrams
  • Lead sub-system level FMEAs and collaborate on System and Component FMEAs
  • Generate and maintain use case diagrams and activity diagrams for MBSE
  • Create and maintain Features, Stories, and/or Change Requests using change management tools
  • Collaborate with Controls and Software Engineers to review software implementation
  • Review Owner’s Manual and Service Information
  • Provide guidance and input for feature design verification plan
  • Maintain open requirements issue list and review, track, and report on progress and status
  • Support advanced technical work projects that drive future features and vehicle enhancements
  • Travel as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in the field of expertise
  • Basic knowledge of controls theory and the software development process
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, including independent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate issues, status and recommendations to team members and leadership
  • Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
  • Ability to prioritize work with only limited direction from manager
  • Must be legally allowed to work in Canada and able to travel to the US
  • Must have a valid Canadian driver’s license

Nice to have:

  • Master's or PhD in Engineering with an emphasis on Controls
  • Experience related to specifying physics of Vehicle Dynamics features, such as trailing braking controls, eLocker, eLSD, or AWD systems
  • Experience with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) concepts and techniques to develop and test requirements
  • Experience with calibration, software, and controls development
  • Knowledge of vehicle network communication protocols (ex. CAN, LIN, Ethernet)
  • Experience leveraging simulation environments and plant modeling for testing or requirements generation is a plus (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, CarSim, etc.)
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., Doors/DNG)
  • Experience with change management tools (e.g., IBM Rational Team Concert, Jira, etc.)
  • Experience with OBD regulations requirements
  • Experience with safety critical systems
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Embedded software architecture knowledge
  • Hardware I/O level controller knowledge

  • Improve the efficiency and quality of Standard Work by systematically driving present vehicle-based tasks into virtual simulation methods and sub-system hardware benches
