The WOAH Sub-Regional Representative represents the Organisation and serves as the primary point of contact for WOAH Members and key stakeholders in the subregion. He/she promotes WOAH’s mandate, values and standards, ensuring that sub-regional priorities and needs are well addressed by the Organisation. The Sub-Regional Representative supports Members by providing adapted technical and institutional services to strengthen animal health systems and facilitate compliance with WOAH standards and guidelines.
Job Responsibility:
Provide strategic leadership for the planning, coordination, implementation and reporting of WOAH activities at sub-regional level
Advocate for WOAH policies and enhance the visibility, outreach and positioning of WOAH and its mandate
Ensure effective engagement, coordination and follow-up with Members and key stakeholders as the primary representative of WOAH in the sub-region
Requirements:
A degree in Veterinary Medicine or in a related field
At least 15 years of professional experience working in Veterinary Authorities, public and/or environmental health, governmental organisations, or a Regional Economic Community
At least 5 years of experience in senior management
At least 5 years of experience in an international and multicultural environment
Proven capacity to lead and develop teams
Demonstrated experience in managing projects, budgets, and processes
Ability to work in both French and English at a high level
Strong analytical skills
Excellent writing skills
Good computer skills in the Microsoft Office environment
Understanding of results-based management and donor accountability principles
Excellent advocacy and communication skills
Demonstrated initiative
Attention to detail
Courtesy, tact, and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships
Strong awareness of confidentiality
A well-established professional network and strong working relationship with current and potential partners in the subregion
Nice to have:
A postgraduate qualification
Good knowledge of the major issues in animal health in the subregion
In-depth familiarity with the region’s Veterinary Services
Strong understanding of the political context and cultural specificities of the region/subregion
Sound knowledge of international and regional organisations
Good working knowledge of one of the local languages in the subregion
