Job Description:

Oxford International Junior Programmes offers a range of summertime ESL programmes at carefully chosen centres in the UK, Canada, and the US. Our programmes aim to create a study experience of educational value, of cultural interest, and, of course, full of fun and memories to take home. Our Vancouver summer program is based at the The University of British Columbia*, where students receive a combination of 15 hours English language tuition per week and a comprehensive programme of activities and excursions. The activity programme will include daytime and evening activities as well as half-day and full-day excursions to attractions and places of cultural interest. We are currently looking for staff for contracts of various length from end-of-June to early August 2026 (programme dates are June 21 – August 9, 2026). A limited number of residential positions are available. Full board accommodation included in residential position employment packages available. The Student Support Manager will be responsible for taking the lead in ensuring a high quality residential operation as well as the welfare of students at our UBC programme both on-site and on excursions. This is a residential position, so room and board at UBC is included as part of the salary for this role.

Job Responsibility:

  • Taking the lead in ensuring a high quality residential operation as well as the welfare of students at our UBC programme both on-site and on excursions
  • Consistently provide outstanding customer service throughout the programme
  • Attending regular meetings with Group Leaders to address any issues or concerns related to room keys and/or student behaviour in the residence
  • Collating and then, alongside the senior team, acting upon any feedback received efficiently
  • Maintaining proper levels of student discipline, safety and welfare throughout, responding quickly to emergencies where necessary
  • Maintaining a great presence throughout, ensuring you are visible to students and easily contactable by clients
  • Supporting student check-in/check-out procedures
  • Ensure students are safe and happy in our care
  • Taking responsibility for on-site safeguarding, recording all issues, reporting these directly to the Centre Manager
  • Working with the Centre Manager to update risk assessments
  • Ensuring health and safety is adhered to, recording any incidents that may occur
  • Working with the senior team to be aware of where each student is accommodated
  • Ensuring any student absences from class are checked and followed up
  • Carry out basic first aid when required
  • Liaising with local medical services if/when necessary
  • Keeping all Welfare logs updated, providing necessary documentation to Head Office by set deadlines

Requirements:

  • Valid First Aid Certification
  • Experience working with children and/or teenagers, ideally in a residential camp setting or similar
  • Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • A skill set that enables success in a fast-paced work environment
  • A positive and flexible approach to work, along with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • A desire to work with students aged between 9-17
  • The ability to demonstrate respect for equal opportunities and respect for race and diversity
  • Strong work ethic

Nice to have:

Are familiar with the UBC Campus, and other Vancouver attractions.
