Job Description:

The student nurse tech assists with patient care under the direct supervision of the registered nurse.

Job Responsibility:

  • Recognizes, obtains and reports appropriate data to the staff
  • Provides patient care services to include basic hygiene, bathing and feeding functions
  • Obtains vital signs
  • Appropriately documents findings and information
  • Communicates appropriate information to the staff as required
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data
  • Has access to minimal risk medications contained in kits, trays or packs associated with certain procedures, as well as IV fluids stored in patient care areas and automated dispensing units
  • Assist physicians or nurses with procedures
  • Collect specimens in accordance with established policies and final check
  • Perform Bladder Scans
  • Perform urinary catheterization
  • Perform non-medicated dressing changes
  • Perform sterile techniques as needed for any listed activity
  • Perform EKGs
  • Visit patients to assess care received using patient family focused care and customer service guidelines
  • Follows the MUSC Standards of Behaviors
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Successful passing of Fundamentals of Nursing Course as determined by the institution in which they are enrolled
  • Currently participating in a Nursing program at an accredited institution
  • Obtain BLS within one (1) month of hire
