Job Description

The Student Involvement and Community Engagement Coordinator hold a critical role within the MD Program Student Affairs team. Based on the Winston-Salem campus, this role reports supports the goals and outcomes of the Student Affairs department under the strategic direction of the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs, campus leadership of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Student Affairs. This role oversees student engagement initiatives—including organizations, interest groups, honor societies, and community outreach—for the MD Program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. This role develops and implements programs to foster student participation, collaborates with campus and community partners, plans events and workshops, manages budgets, and supports student leaders.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage and support multiple groups within the MD Program, including MD Student Organizations, Interest Groups, and the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) and Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) honor societies
  • Ensure all Student Organization and Interest Group pages on Canvas are consistently updated and aligned with institutional guidelines
  • Oversee Interest Group funding requests by reviewing submissions, issuing approval notifications, executing necessary contracts, and facilitating reimbursement processes
  • Coordinate and manage annual training, registration, and re-registration for new and existing MD student organizations and interest groups
  • Maintain a comprehensive and current database of MD interest groups
  • Maintain an ongoing student-facing calendar of events
  • Work with appropriate parties to have events posted on monitors within the medical education buildings
  • Support the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) and Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) honor societies
  • Support student-led community engagement projects, including logistics, training, risk management, and assessment
  • Assist in developing and maintaining partnerships with local, regional and national community organizations that address health-related needs
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of the IDEA Grant program
  • Serve as a liaison between the NC Albert Schweitzer Fellowship and Wake Forest University School of Medicine MD Program
  • Provide support for student-run clinics on both campuses
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study with five years of professional events management
  • community engagement or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
  • Experience in marketing and with volunteers preferred
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a closely related discipline (Preferred)
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality experiences that enhance student engagement
