Job Description:

We are looking for a Student Intern for our Construction Property Underwriting line of business, working a hybrid schedule based in the New York City office. The internship program will provide the opportunity to apply a macro understanding of risk in the real world by working side-by-side with our underwriting, risk consulting and operational support team professionals. Interns will participate in a wide range of learning and development opportunities including job shadows, attendance at internal meetings, speaking engagements and events designed to expose the intern to other areas of insurance.

Job Responsibility:

  • Exposure to the identification and analysis of risk and loss control advice
  • Continue exposure and education in the underwriting of the risk selection, and retention on accounts
  • Assist local NRC Large Construction Team in the Northeast Region to help with modeling requests, ARC request and work with the facultative desk on requests for Northeast Team underwriters
  • Manage large project pipeline’s
  • Support sanctions / rep risk check on accounts
  • Clean up some reports i.e. Treaty & Nat Cat
  • Data quality checks in Foundry
  • Organize policy wording folders both internal & external wordings
  • Assist with natcat risk assessments (NATHAN, FEMA, RMS Modeling, CATlas, etc.)
  • Read ARC GREAT reports and Geotech’s to pick out important pieces of information (foundation types, dewatering methods, assigned contractor, etc.)
  • Possibly sit with an engineer during their review
  • Assist with MBR maintenance
  • Attend broker lunches and happy hours
  • Sit in on NY huddle meetings & the biweekly US team meetings
  • Help formulate underwriting rationale on per project basis
  • Pulling data from various sources and enter into excel
  • Run reports to analyze the department book's performance and monitor progress
  • Scan and save file documentation retrieved from boxes into appropriate accounts
  • Create presentations for the department which details the features, advantages and benefits of new products
  • Development of complex Microsoft Word and Excel documents to be used as department templates
  • Collaborate on a proof of concept for a new product offering or research
  • Be given other projects that can be completed within the length of the internship
  • Assist with Admin tasks as required
  • Participate in a wide range of learning and development activities focused on immersing the intern into how insurance works.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing university or college degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance or related discipline
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations including a strong working knowledge of Excel and other MS office applications
  • Ability to apply field of study learnings to the internship
  • Knowledge of basic math skills – strong aptitude for numbers
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • The ability to utilize AI tools to support day-to-day tasks, improve efficiency, and contribute to data-driven decision-making is valuable
  • A willingness to learn and explore how AI can enhance your role, and the broader organization is expected.
