Job Description:

Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for an experienced Student Funding Administration Manager who is keen to develop their skills in Student Financial Support. You will play a key role in the effective delivery of Student Loans Company (SLC) processes across Birkbeck and its partner institutions, working closely with the Head of Student Funding, and fellow Student Funding Administration Manager. This opportunity would build on experience as a Student Funding Administrator, Student Funding Adviser, or similar, and offers the chance to develop leadership and specialist expertise in a key regulatory area, during a period of sector‑wide change.

Job Responsibility:

  • Effective delivery of Student Loans Company (SLC) processes across Birkbeck and its partner institutions
  • Day‑to‑day responsibility for the administration and oversight of SLC activity
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and a consistently high standard of service
  • Contribute to the design, development and improvement of student funding processes, including the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE)
  • Advise on SLC regulations and procedures
  • Support the resolution of complex cases within established frameworks
  • Maintain constructive internal and external working relationships
  • Line management of two Student Funding Administrators
  • Delivery of training and briefings for colleagues and partner institutions

Requirements:

  • Management experience, ideally gained within student funding or student administration
  • Strong knowledge of SLC systems and processes
  • Proactive and solutions‑focused communicator and organiser
  • Comfortable working independently in a busy environment
  • Experience setting objectives, monitoring performance and motivating staff
  • Experience as a Student Funding Administrator, Student Funding Adviser, or similar
