In this role you will act as the technical lead and subject matter expert for temporary works across commercial, infrastructure, and industrial construction projects nationwide. This role supports project teams from planning through execution, ensuring all temporary structures are safe, compliant, and aligned with engineering best practices and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in identifying technical risks, reviewing designs, supporting site teams, and helping drive consistent, high-quality temporary works standards across projects.
Job Responsibility:
Review, assess, and approve temporary works designs prepared internally or by third parties
Provide engineering input during estimating, planning, procurement, and construction phases
Support temporary structures including cranes, scaffolding, shoring, formwork, falsework, hoarding, access systems, construction staging, and site safety systems
Ensure compliance with applicable provincial OH&S regulations, building codes, and engineering standards
Identify technical and safety risks related to temporary structural systems
Develop and communicate practical mitigation strategies and engineering controls
Support or lead investigations related to temporary works incidents when required
Conduct site visits across Canada to support inspections, troubleshooting, and compliance
Audit temporary works installations for safety, quality, and alignment with approved designs
Support and mentor site teams on proper installation, monitoring, and documentation
Act as the organization’s go-to technical resource for temporary works engineering
Develop training materials, reference guides, and best practices
Collaborate with safety, quality, estimating, project management, and engineering teams
Contribute to continuous improvement of temporary works processes and standards
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s an asset)
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in at least one Canadian province, with ability to obtain additional provincial licenses
10+ years of experience in structural or temporary works engineering within construction
Strong experience with systems such as scaffolding, shoring, formwork, falsework, heavy lifts, cofferdams, roadway and railway protection systems, and dewatering
Solid understanding of construction means and methods and site operations
Experience leading or supporting engineering and construction teams
Proficiency with structural analysis and design software
Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes, OH&S regulations, CSA standards, and bridge codes (AREMA knowledge considered an asset)
Ability to interpret structural drawings, specifications, and construction documentation
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Highly organized with strong documentation and record-keeping abilities
Comfortable working independently and travelling nationally
Safety-focused with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
