As a Steel Erector at Kiwi Newton Construction LLC, you’ll play a key role in supporting field erection operations through the hands-on erection and installation of structural steel, braces, and precast components including precast plates. Based on active construction sites, you’ll work as part of a skilled crew installing structural systems safely, accurately, and efficiently, including the installation and fitment of bolts and structural connections. This role also involves identifying and rectifying installation issues in the field, assisting with corrective work, and supporting the coordination and oversight of rectification activities when required.
Job Responsibility:
Install structural steel framing including columns, beams, joists, braces, and metal decking
Assist with installation of precast concrete components including panels, stairs, beams, and wall systems including precast plates
Perform installation and proper fitment of bolts, braces, and structural connections
Perform bolt-up and connection work, including torquing and tensioning procedures
Perform field welding when required (SMAW, FCAW, etc.)
Read and interpret structural drawings, erection plans, shop drawings, and connection details
Assist with layout and alignment of steel using levels, lasers, and other measuring equipment
Perform rigging of structural steel and precast components for crane picks
Work with crane operators and signalpersons during lifting operations
Assist with proper positioning, plumbing, and alignment of steel members
Install shims, bearing pads, and assist with grouting procedures where required
Maintain proper structural tolerances, plumbness, and alignment during installations
Identify, troubleshoot, and rectify installation issues such as misaligned members, connection fitment problems, or embed plate discrepancies
Oversee rectification works when issues arise and assist with performing corrective work as required
Assist with unloading and staging of materials and equipment
Support site logistics including material movement and erection sequencing
Identify and report field issues such as misaligned embeds, anchor bolt placement problems, or damaged materials
Follow all safety protocols including fall protection and steel erection safety standards
Comply with OSHA regulations, including Subpart R steel erection standards
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Work collaboratively with crew members and other trades on site
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
3–8+ years of hands-on experience in structural steel erection and/or precast concrete installation
Experience as an ironworker installing structural framing systems
Experience erecting steel structures including braces and precast components
Knowledge of rigging practices and crane safety procedures
Proficiency in bolt-up, torquing, welding, cutting, and layout procedures
Ability to read and interpret structural and shop drawings
Understanding of anchor bolt layouts, embed plates, bearing surfaces, and alignment standards
Experience operating aerial lifts and scissor lifts
Comfortable working at heights using fall protection system
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (preferred)
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Ability to work in fast-paced construction environments
Physical stamina to work at heights and in varied weather conditions
Committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized job site
