We’re excited to be offering an opportunity for a Structural Integrity Engineer to join our Structural Integrity & Materials Engineering (SIME) Team within the Advanced Systems & Consultancy Sub-Division (ASC) as part of our 2026 Internship Programme. Providing an engaging role in vital national and international civil and defence nuclear programmes, developing and applying structural integrity assessment methods, particularly applied to metallic components. This role provides a diverse and exciting range of opportunities to support a variety of clients in relation to the structural integrity of regulated assets. Our 2026 Internship Programme provides an opportunity for you to experience our work at the cutting edge of innovation and technology. Completion of the internship is a potential entry route on to our Graduate Programme in September 2027.
Job Responsibility:
Developing and applying structural integrity assessment methods, particularly applied to metallic components
Providing an engaging role in vital national and international civil and defence nuclear programmes
Supporting a variety of clients in relation to the structural integrity of regulated assets
Requirements:
Permanent right to work in the UK
Ordinarily resident in the UK, the British Overseas Territories, or Crown Dependencies for at least the previous three years
Due to graduate in the summer of 2027
Understanding of conventional and computational stress analysis, in particular the Abaqus finite element package
Understanding of the use of fracture mechanics methodologies (e.g., applying R6 or BS7910 methods) to conduct defect tolerance assessments (DTA)
Understanding of supporting the preparation of engineering critical assessments (ECAs)
Understanding of inelastic deformation and failure mechanisms of ductile and/or brittle structural components
Understanding of scientific & scripting programming languages (e.g., C++, Fortran, Python and Matlab)
Flexible and proactive self-starter
Ability to adapt and prioritise whilst juggling work and study priorities
Enthusiastic and curious
Empathic and with good listening skills
