Job Description

This position exists to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and safe engineering solutions supporting the operational and strategic objectives of a global ocean-infrastructure company. The role is dedicated to advancing decarbonisation within traditional energy production and enabling energy transition projects, contributing to the development of sustainable ocean infrastructure in the blue economy. The purpose of this position is to ensure technical excellence and compliance with company and industry standards in structural hull design.

Job Responsibility

  • Utilise technical knowledge to depict designs that are easily and correctly interpreted by stakeholders
  • Contribute to project objectives by selecting methods and procedures to achieve reliable structural hull designs
  • Support operational and strategic goals through the execution of design tasks aligned with current and future industry requirements
  • Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with international codes, company, and industry standards and regulations
  • Maintain quality by adhering to specifications and overseeing system interfaces within project boundaries
  • Use necessary lessons learnt and understand change impact across project systems
  • Plan and complete design deliverables within agreed time frames to support engineering schedules
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and lead designer to share information, resolve design conflicts, and ensure understanding of design intent
  • Escalate unresolved issues to the lead designer or engineer to minimise delays in project deliverables
  • Provide timely review of vendor documents in coordination with package engineers
  • Submit quality comments at the required level for reviewed documents, ensuring alignment with project objectives
  • Communicate progress against deliverables and highlight challenges impacting performance to relevant stakeholders
  • Incorporate applicable lessons learnt into design and process improvements
  • Engage with team members to share best practices and technical expertise
  • Stay current with advancements in engineering design and calculation tools specific to structural hull design

Requirements

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Design, or a relevant field
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in any industry, demonstrating a foundation in engineering design
  • Proven ability to perform work and execute design tasks within project scope and specifications
  • Proficiency in engineering design and calculation tools
  • Ability to interpret and analyse structural hull detailed designs
  • Strong collaboration skills for multidiscipline project execution

  • Responsible and oversee plan approval activities in Canada and U.S. Main point of contact with clients and external stakeholders (USCG, Transport Canada, engineering companies, etc.) for plan approval (PA) related issues and questions, as directed by the Client Technical Service (CTS) Manager. Compile and issue quotations for Local Plan Office (LPO) services – all disciplines (Hull, Machinery, Electricity/Automation, Fire & Safety, Stability) – in collaboration & cooperation with the North America Commercial Team. Develop strategy and action plan to work towards UPO independence to serve North America market needs without reliance on LPO network (to maximum extent allowable) – including design and implementation for necessary surveyor training & development, as driven by market segment growth. Daily management for the UPO team – procedures, tools, lean management, visual management, information, internal reporting, incl. necessary interactions and meetings with Head Office (HO) and the global Bureau Veritas network. Support the PA activity of other LPOs, when requested, and manage subcontracting within the LPO network for jobs outside UPO’s delegations. Oversee and manage UPO team qualifications according to internal quality procedures, qualifications, activity & report monitoring, etc. Attend internal and external meetings and workshops in connection with design review across all disciplines. Collaborate and support the North America Commercial Team with client PA-related inquiries and engage with client meetings/calls as required. Prepare and manage internal and external audits of UPO, address any non- conformities and implement corrective actions.
