Job Description

As a Structural Foreman at Kiwi Newton Construction LLC, you’ll play a pivotal role in leading our field erection operations with a hands-on, working-leadership approach. Based on active construction sites, you’ll guide daily steel and precast installation activities, motivate your crew, and actively participate in the work — setting the tone for safety, quality, and productivity. This role is ideal for a proven field leader who isn’t afraid to work at heights, get in the mix, and drive results through teamwork, organization, and a commitment to excellence.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead, motivate, and coordinate erection crews (3–10 workers) to meet or exceed project schedules and deadlines
  • Actively work alongside your team installing structural steel framing (columns, beams, joists, decking) and precast concrete components (panels, stairs, beams, wall systems)
  • Oversee bolt-up and connection work, including torquing and tensioning procedures
  • Perform and supervise field welding (SMAW, FCAW, etc.)
  • Read and interpret structural drawings, erection plans, shop drawings, and connection details
  • Ensure proper layout and alignment of steel using levels, lasers, and total stations
  • Coordinate rigging and direct crane operations, including critical picks and tandem lifts
  • Review lift plans and understand load charts for mobile, tower, and rough-terrain cranes
  • Conduct daily safety meetings (Toolbox Talks) and enforce fall protection and steel erection safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, including Subpart R steel erection standards
  • Monitor structural tolerances, plumbness, alignment, shimming, and grouting procedures
  • Coordinate with general contractors, engineers, concrete crews, and fabricators
  • Manage material deliveries, erection sequencing, and site logistics
  • Address and resolve field challenges such as misaligned embeds, incorrect anchor bolt placement, damaged precast components, and weather delays
  • Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports, JHAs, incident reports, and productivity tracking
  • Train apprentices and new hires while fostering teamwork and accountability
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • 5–10+ years of hands-on experience in structural steel erection and precast concrete installation
  • Experience as an ironworker installing structural framing systems
  • Strong knowledge of rigging, crane safety, signaling, and lift planning (NCCCO signalperson preferred)
  • Proficiency in bolt-up, torquing, welding, cutting, and layout procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and shop drawings
  • Knowledge of anchor bolt layouts, embed plates, bearing surfaces, and alignment standards
  • Experience operating aerial lifts, scissor lifts, and working at heights with fall protection systems
  • OSHA 30-hour certification (preferred or required depending on jurisdiction)
  • Experience leading crews and managing productivity in fast-paced site environments
  • Strong leadership, communication, and scheduling skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities in field conditions
  • Physical stamina to work at heights and in varied weather conditions
  • Committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized job site
