The Anthro joint venture between Egis and VVB Engineering will provide comprehensive turn-key services for London’s state-of-the-art HS2 gateway station at Old Oak Common. We have been awarded a multi-year contract to deliver MEPHFC (Mechanical, Electrical Public Health, Fire and Communications) systems works. About the Role: Job Purpose: To lead and deliver the detailed design of specialist structural bracketry systems from concept through to fabrication-ready documentation. The candidate will be the technical authority for all bracketry-related structural analysis and design, ensuring compliance with the relevant Eurocodes, fire engineering requirements, and interface coordination with MEP, architectural, and civil disciplines. The role demands a rigorous, first-principles approach to structural analysis combined with strong commercial and programme awareness. This will be for Anthro Joint Venture (VVB Engineering and Egis). Working in the Anthro design office, London, 3 days week, and attending site meetings at Old Oak Common where required. You will be responsible for leading production, checking and coordination of bracketry, secondary, tertiary steelwork works across the project. This will include interface with MEPHFC engineering, architectural and BIM/digital staff members. As a senior engineer you will work under the direction of the Engineering Lead, coordinating with our MEPHFC designers, client BBVS, and third-party work packages. You will use your knowledge and skills to deliver the right quality to time and budget.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and deliver the detailed design of specialist structural bracketry systems from concept through to fabrication-ready documentation
Be the technical authority for all bracketry-related structural analysis and design, ensuring compliance with the relevant Eurocodes, fire engineering requirements, and interface coordination with MEP, architectural, and civil disciplines
Management, coordination and agreement of bracketry and support structures for building services with our CREs/Lead Engineers, and third parties
Apply EN 1990 (Basis of Structural Design) for load combinations and reliability classifications
Design steel brackets and connections to EN 1993-1-1, EN 1993-1-8 (joints), and EN 1993-1-3 (cold-formed sections) as applicable, with full ULS and SLS checks documented
Assess the fire resistance requirements of structural bracketry in accordance with EN 1993-1-2 (Structural Fire Design)
Determine critical steel temperatures and evaluate passive fire protection strategies
Structural review of design and third-party proprietary systems
Lead workshops internally and with the Client and Principal Designer to agree or escalate issues
Provide weekly reporting for Anthro/client BBVS
Manage resources, or third party organisations, to ensure works completed on time and to budget
Escalate matters of concern via the NEC 3 Early Warning Notice
Produce and prepare design in accordance with HS2, Eurocodes, and NR-L2-CIV-003
Produce and civil / structural engineering design drawings, calculations, reports, and supporting documentation
Produce and coordinate engineering activities so that they result in civil / structural schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements
Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that civil / structural design deliverables meet standards
Requirements:
Technical qualifications to degree in relevant subject BEng/MEng
Professional Engineer Registration status with the Engineering Council (UK) and be registered with an appropriate professional institution
Leadership skills and mentoring experience
Ability to create and communicate instructions and manage others in the process of design interfaces and integration
Ability to communicate effectively to deliver on time and to programme
Experience of managing staff working in an engineering production environment
Experience in the railway industry
Experience in following procedures to ensure a multi-disciplinary design approach and the delivery of projects to a high quality throughout all design stage gates
Good knowledge of UK design standards, such as Network Rail, HS2 and TfL
Knowledge of all relevant BIM standards, design integration procedures and relevant legislation
CITB CSCS scheme
