Airswift is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to work in Trinidad & Tobago in a permanent position with a heavy industrial services company, such as mechanical manufacturing, assembly, maintenance and construction for the energy sector.
Job Responsibility
Determine design requirements in collaboration with the Engineering Manager
Develop detailed structural designs to support projects in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Tank Farm, and other industrial facility sectors
Perform complex stress analyses to evaluate the structural capacity of components under various load conditions
Optimize designs to achieve cost-effectiveness while maintaining structural integrity
Perform complex structural analyses using FEA software (e.g., STAADPro) to design steel structures and shells
Perform structural design work independently
In collaboration with clients and other key stakeholders, prepare project briefings as needed
In collaboration with key stakeholders, create cost-effective designs and drawings
Ensure that designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., API, AISC, PIP, etc.)
Apply standard design details in accordance with ACI, AISC, PIP, OSHA, and company safety standards, as well as other applicable industry codes and standards
Prepare reports on the degree of compliance with KPIs and other departmental metrics
Prepare structural drawings, calculations, and documents detailing design concepts
Prepare fabrication and connection details for steel structures
Review or approve fabrication drawings and shop details to ensure structural integrity during construction
Review and verify engineering calculations, design documents, and drawings from third parties/suppliers
Provide technical guidance and support to design engineers and site supervisors
Investigate and resolve any structural issues that arise during construction
Stay current on new materials, fabrication techniques, and structural analysis methods in the oil and gas industry
Stay current on the latest industry codes and regulatory changes
Manage project deliverables, schedules, and budgets
Promote improvements in project quality and cost efficiency
In collaboration with other departments, assess and determine the financial/economic feasibility, risk assessment, environmental impact, and safety of projects
In collaboration with key stakeholders, diagnose and resolve a variety of complex engineering and design-related issues (such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements)
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering
BOETT license and registration
Experience in structural design in petrochemical or onshore oil and gas facilities
Proficiency in structural analysis software
Solid knowledge of structural mechanics, materials science, stress analysis, and design principles
Experience in the design of steel structures related to processing plants, petrochemicals, tank farms, and other industrial facilities
