An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Physician with a specialist interest in Stroke Medicine to join a progressive and highly regarded stroke service in South East England. This role offers the chance to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive hyper-acute, acute, rehabilitation, and TIA services supported by advanced stroke imaging technology and strong regional networks. A minimum of 1 year of NHS experience is required. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering and developing high-quality stroke services while contributing to general internal medicine and supporting education, research, and service improvement initiatives.
Job Responsibility
Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient Stroke Medicine services
Deliver hyper-acute stroke, acute stroke, and stroke rehabilitation care
Participate in rapid-access TIA assessment and management services
Contribute to inpatient General Internal Medicine services as required
Participate in the Consultant acute medical on-call rota
Support and supervise junior medical staff and multidisciplinary teams
Lead clinical decision-making for complex stroke patients
Participate in multidisciplinary stroke meetings and governance activities
Contribute to service development, innovation, and quality improvement projects
Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation
Participate in clinical audit, appraisal, and continuing professional development
Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training
Support clinical research and evidence-based practice initiatives
Requirements
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
MRCP or equivalent qualification
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in General Internal Medicine and either Stroke Medicine or Geriatric Medicine via CCT, CESR or equivalent pathway
CCT date within 6 months of interview if applicable
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Completion of recognised training in General Internal Medicine and Care of the Elderly with Stroke Medicine experience
Demonstrable expertise in Acute Stroke Management
High level of clinical competence in Stroke Medicine and General Internal Medicine
Experience teaching undergraduate, postgraduate and junior medical staff
Evidence of participation in clinical audit and quality improvement activities
Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team-working skills
Commitment to service development and patient-centred care
Nice to have
Higher Degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Research experience in Stroke Medicine
Published audit or research work
Service development experience
Leadership and management training
Experience in clinical governance initiatives
