We are recruiting a Consultant Stroke Physician and will also consider experienced Stroke Specialists to join a progressive and expanding Stroke Service in South West England. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a well-established multidisciplinary stroke team delivering high-quality hyperacute, acute, rehabilitation and community stroke services. The service is undergoing a major transformation, including the launch of a new 12-bed Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) and continued investment in the stroke workforce, research, diagnostics, and service development. You will work alongside an experienced team of Stroke Consultants and Specialist Doctors, contributing to innovative patient-centred stroke care while helping shape the future of stroke services across the region. Job Responsibility
Deliver consultant-led hyperacute, acute and rehabilitation stroke care
Lead daily Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) ward rounds
Participate in 24/7 thrombolysis services supported by regional telemedicine networks
Assess and manage patients presenting with acute stroke, TIA and cerebrovascular disease
Run rapid-access TIA clinics in accordance with national stroke standards
Support inpatient stroke rehabilitation services and Early Supported Discharge pathways
Provide outpatient stroke follow-up and specialist stroke clinics
Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality stroke care
Participate in the weekend HASU on-call rota
Supervise and support junior doctors, specialist trainees and medical students
Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development
Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes
Support and participate in stroke research and clinical trials
Develop and implement evidence-based improvements across stroke services
Work across hospital sites where required
Requirements
MRCP or equivalent
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register via CCT, CESR or equivalent (or within six months of CCT)
