Aligned with the overall strategy of the UFC and the UFC Performance Institute (UFCPI) the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of all strength & conditioning aspects within the UFCPI. This role will work closely with the Snr Manger Performance Science and Strength & Conditioning to develop China’s leading training institution in terms of performance, welfare, and research into MMA and combat sports.
Job Responsibility
Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Performance Science and Strength & Conditioning and the Manager of Strength & Conditioning to enhance athletic performance through the development, implementation, and evaluation of scientifically driven strength and conditioning programs
Conduct individual and group strength and conditioning sessions, predominantly for Academy MMA, but including other elite level athletes from a variety of sporting backgrounds (when needed)
Foster relationships with third-party consultants and establish strategic partnerships with leaders in strength & conditioning across various sports
Design and implement systems to facilitate athlete assessments, data collection, and management to optimize training outcomes
Cultivates relationships with athletes, coaches, and gyms to distribute evidence-based relevant information
Support the design, development and delivery of individualised strength and conditioning services that align with the needs of athletes and coaches, maintaining high standards of effectiveness and efficiency. Measuring, monitoring progress, and modifying programs as needed
Innovate and introduce novel methodologies to advance practices in MMA-specific and multi-sport strength and conditioning
Contribute to on-going training with athletes, coaches, and UFCPI staff members to ensure continued professional development and adherence to professional codes of conduct
Maintain a comprehensive, indexed database documenting work with athletes and coaches for ongoing evaluation and improvement
Participate in projects and applied research initiatives, as needed
Liaise with athletes, primary care managers, coaches and support staff while upholding professional confidentiality and ethical standards
Support data collection process, including information such as baseline testing and measurements, load monitoring, key performance indicators, exercise and treatment logs, injuries, and specific return to play programs for athletes and report data back to Snr manger
Assist in evaluation and implementation of sports science technology (including but not limited to heart rate monitoring, session-RPE collection and video analysis review)
Performs other tasks, projects, and responsibilities to establish a world class performance facility
Requirements
Post Graduate Degree in Exercise Science or other related curriculum required
2+ years of high-level technical experience in science, research, and strength and conditioning fields
Certification as a either: Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), UKSCA, or ASCA Level 2 and above
Previous experience working effectively in a high-performance environment with elite athletes and coaches
Personal or professional experience in combat or contact sport is preferred, but not required
Understanding of the demands of MMA (i.e. physical, physiology, gender-specific, weight categories, weight management, travel requirements, etc.) preferred
Understanding of existing evidence-based research, and the implementation of new research areas to enhance the sport, athletes, and coaches
Nice to have
Personal or professional experience in combat or contact sport is preferred, but not required
Understanding of the demands of MMA (i.e. physical, physiology, gender-specific, weight categories, weight management, travel requirements, etc.) preferred
