Job Description:

Street Lighting Manager – Highways Local Authority We’re recruiting an experienced Street Lighting Manager to lead the delivery, maintenance, and strategic development of public lighting services across the borough. This is a senior, hands-on role with responsibility for managing street lighting operations, contractors, budgets, and a professional team, while ensuring full compliance with highways legislation, CDM regulations, and health & safety standards. You’ll also oversee a 24/7 highway emergency service and play a key role in shaping service delivery to meet corporate objectives and provide value for money.

Job Responsibility:

  • Managing maintenance and installation of public lighting assets
  • Leading contractors and supervising a multi-disciplinary team
  • Managing capital and revenue budgets, forecasting, and reporting
  • Ensuring compliance with highways, streetworks, and H&S legislation
  • Representing the service at meetings, committees, and public forums
  • Supporting asset management and continuous service improvement

Requirements:

  • 10+ years’ experience in street lighting / highway maintenance
  • Strong local authority background
  • Proven people and budget management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Highways Act, NRSWA, TMA & CDM
  • Full UK driving licence and flexible approach to out-of-hours cover
