The Strategic Asset Ops Specialist supports the Strategic Asset Management team by managing the day-to-day operational execution of Universal Trailer Pool (UTP) programs. This role is responsible for maintaining trailer balance across all UTP locations, ensuring compliance with return timelines, and driving accountability with carriers through accurate tracking, reporting, and communication. This individual plays a critical role in real-time operations, escalating issues, reinforcing process adherence, and helping improve service performance across the board.
Job Responsibility:
Monitor trailer inventory across UTP locations to ensure consistent trailer availability aligned with daily volume needs
Maintain and update internal trailer tracking tools or systems to reflect current status and location of each trailer
Report and resolve discrepancies, escalating to the SAM and Carrier Reps as needed
Track and enforce trailer return timelines per carrier agreements
Assist in the execution of monthly carrier scorecards with a specific focus on trailer return compliance %
Identify trends in delayed returns, damaged/lost trailers, and repeated non-compliance
Support communication to carriers around expectations and compliance thresholds related to UTP usage
Partner with the SAM to recommend corrective actions when needed
Lead intake and documentation of trailer-related issues including: Late returns, damaged, stolen, or lost trailers, incomplete check-in/out processes, safety-related incidents
Ensure check-in procedures are being followed by both carrier dispatch and drivers at preload or drop sites
Collaborate with internal safety/compliance teams to ensure records are maintained for audits
Act as a resource to the Carrier floor regarding rules of engagement for UTP usage
Help train new reps on UTP-specific processes, expectations, and escalation paths
Ensure all stakeholders understand trailer allocation protocols and reporting procedures
Requirements:
6+ months experience in operations, asset coordination, logistics, or carrier support
Strong understanding of trailer pool logistics and/or freight brokerage operations
Proficient in Excel, TMS, trailer tracking software, and internal reporting tools
Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and communication skills
Comfortable with cross-functional coordination and frontline issue resolution
