Job Description:

Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Manager, the Sterile Processing Technician processes the instrumentation utilized in the operating room and ancillary areas according to regulatory standards and appropriate internal standards. The role provides and customer-focused service to all Health System team members, leadership and medical staff and to the patients/visitors.

Job Responsibility:

  • Decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes instrumentation according to national guidelines and internal standards
  • Operates departmental equipment within appropriate guidelines/policies/procedures
  • Demonstrates high levels of quality control by following departmental policies/procedures and thorough documentation of sterilization process
  • Effectively prioritizes and communicates customer needs within the department and with customers
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Understands and identifies instrumentation and equipment utilized in all customer areas
  • Performs other assigned duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager related to Sterile Processing
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department

Requirements:

  • High School Graduate
  • Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technologist experience or current enrollment or completion of a Sterile Processing Certification program
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) (DO NOT USE) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 1 Year

Nice to have:

  • 1 or more years experience as Sterile Processing Technician
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician(CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) upon Hire

  • Maintain accurate records of decontamination processes, including sterilisation cycles, inspections and maintenance
  • Report any discrepancies, malfunctions or issues to the Decontamination Manager
  • Ensure all decontamination procedures comply with UK healthcare regulations and relevant infection control guidelines
  • Follow strict health and safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination
  • Ensure that the work environment is kept clean and free from contaminants
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals and departments to prioritise and process decontamination requests in a timely manner
  • Assist in maintaining stock levels of cleaning and sterilisation supplies and ensure the proper storage of instruments and equipment
