Job Description:

Sterile Processing Technician for Surgery Center. Part-time, Dayshift, Monday - Friday, Days dependent on case volume. 8 hour shift with start time of 0630. Opportunities for extra hours for coverage. No call, no holidays, no weekends.

Job Responsibility:

  • Processes all reusable medical/surgical items for issue according to departmental and infection control policy and procedures
  • Sterilizes instruments and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and infection control guidelines
  • Completes thorough cleaning of surgical instruments and equipment
  • Processes patient care equipment for re-issue
  • Inspects patient care equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning
  • Inspects surgical instruments and equipment for proper functioning
  • Performs biological indicator tests on the Steam sterilizers and the Sterrad Unit and Steris One
  • Assembles instrument sets according to department protocols
  • Packages instrument sets for sterilizing
  • Distributes sterile equipment to appropriate areas
  • Communicates and notifies all personnel for the recall of sterilized items
  • Restocks surgery unit with medical/surgical supplies
  • Maintains established supply levels in the Central Processing area
  • Revises department policies to meet the department standards
  • Observes environmental standards for the Central Processing area
  • Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pull various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique

Requirements:

  • High School Graduate
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders on a daily basis
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance
  • Must be able to push/pull with 20 lbs. of force
  • Position requires repetitive use of feet (i.e., heat sealer, sonic cleaner)
  • Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing

Nice to have:

  • 1-2 years of sterile processing experience
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)

  • Report any discrepancies, malfunctions or issues to the Decontamination Manager
  • Ensure all decontamination procedures comply with UK healthcare regulations and relevant infection control guidelines
  • Follow strict health and safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination
  • Ensure that the work environment is kept clean and free from contaminants
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals and departments to prioritise and process decontamination requests in a timely manner
  • Assist in maintaining stock levels of cleaning and sterilisation supplies and ensure the proper storage of instruments and equipment
