Requirements

NVQ Level 3/Technical Certificate Decontamination or equivalent level or knowledge
Previous experience in a sterile services, decontamination, or healthcare environment
Knowledge of infection control and sterilisation procedures
Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically
Good IT skills
Working in a timely manner while achieving high levels of accuracy
Be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of the workplace.

Job Responsibility

Reprocess reusable surgical instruments and operate decontamination equipment safely
Safely clean, disinfect and sterilise medical equipment and instruments
Perform routine checks and maintenance of decontamination and sterilisation equipment, ensuring it operates efficiently and safely
Maintain accurate records of decontamination processes, including sterilisation cycles, inspections and maintenance
Report any discrepancies, malfunctions or issues to the Decontamination Manager
Ensure all decontamination procedures comply with UK healthcare regulations and relevant infection control guidelines
Follow strict health and safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination
Ensure that the work environment is kept clean and free from contaminants
Work closely with other healthcare professionals and departments to prioritise and process decontamination requests in a timely manner
Assist in maintaining stock levels of cleaning and sterilisation supplies and ensure the proper storage of instruments and equipment

Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or other sterile processing certification

Serves as a departmental resource for SPD and other departments and models excellent customer service
Maintains frequent and ongoing communication with the Sterile Processing Supervisor
Expert in all aspects of the sterile processing cycle and ability to provide guidance and education to SPD employees
Assumes role and responsibilities Sterile Processing Supervisor when assigned
Assists Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintaining department production requirements by leading and directing SPD employees
Assists with case carts management and communicates issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor
Uses excellent communication skills when discussing instrument needs with Sterile Processing Supervisor, SPD Liaisons, and/or OR Clinical Coordinators
Ensures that all equipment is functioning optimally and report issues to the Sterile Processing Supervisor and/or the appropriate department
Assists the Sterile Processing Supervisor with maintenance of departmental compliance logs
