Under direct supervision, receives day-to-day assignments from Assistant Chief Stationary Engineer
Monitors the daily operation of steam boilers and all related equipment such as feed pumps, fans, circulatory pumps, etc.
Monitors and logs temperatures and pressures on air handling equipment
Operates control panel to monitor, start, stop, take temperature, etc. on all equipment room machinery
Schedules Power Plant shutdowns necessary to make repairs to ensure maximum operation and least possible emergency situations
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Requirements:
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of eight (8) years of elementary school
Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high-pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers
Requires the ability pass a background check
Requires the ability meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance
Requires the ability pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical
Requires possession of a Stationary Engineer License
Requires possession of or the ability to obtain a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S.E.P.A. Section 608 Rules
Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied materials/equipment (e.g., pager, cell phone, etc.)
Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate
Requires ability to work from heights (on ladders, scaffold, platforms, and lifts), stand for long periods, and move heavy equipment, materials, structures, and furniture weighing up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance

Three (3) years of professional experience monitoring and troubleshooting high-pressure and/or low-pressure coal-, gas-, or oil-fired boilers and their auxiliaries
Three (3) years of professional experience monitoring and troubleshooting electrical generating equipment
Three (3) years of professional experience keeping written logs of daily operations
Three (3) years of professional experience following oral and/or written instructions effectively
Three (3) years of professional experience operating hand and power tools effectively
Three (3) years of professional experience performing repairs and maintaining equipment and machinery
Three (3) years of professional experience handling chemicals in chilled water closed-loop systems, hot water heating systems, and condenser water systems
Three (3) years of professional experience reading and understanding mechanical blueprints, technical equipment manuals, and sequence of operations
Three (3) years of professional experience working with domestic water systems, including understanding waterborne pathogen risks (such as Legionella) and basic prevention and control practices
