The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Alton Mental Health Center located in Alton, Illinois to receive day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Stationary Engineer-Chief or designee.
Job Responsibility:
Receives day-to-day guidance and assignments from the Stationary Engineer-Chief or designee
Makes rounds of buildings' boiler and mechanical rooms at regular intervals to assess the operation and efficiency of all machinery and equipment and to detect potential mechanical problems
Tests and records water used for consumption for generating steam, hydronic hot water, and chilled water systems and add appropriate chemicals as needed for proper maintenance of systems including chilled and hot water loops and cooling towers reads
Resolves problems related to building services
Observes and listens to the performance of various machineries to detect mechanical problems
Operates hand and power tools and heavy powerhouse tools to perform routine repairs and for complete overhaul of systems and equipment, lifting and moving equipment/machinery weighing up to 50 pounds (100 pounds with assistance)
Performs other duties and required or assigned, which are· reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Requirements:
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of eight (8) years of elementary school
Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high-pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers
Requires possession of a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S.E.P.A. Section 608 Rules* or the ability to obtain such certificate within 6 months of employment
Requires the ability to perform various tasks such as lifting and moving equipment/machinery up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance)
Requires an appropriate, valid driver’s license and the ability to travel
Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied materials/equipment (e.g., pager, cell phone, etc.)
Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers
Requires the ability to work different shifts, including weekends and holidays
Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check
Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law
Nice to have:
Four (4) years of specialized experience in the operation of high-pressure/low-pressure coal, gas or oil-fired boilers and their apparatuses
Three (3) years of specialized experience in water treatment and various chemicals used in boiler systems
Three (3) years of specialized experience diagnosing problems in mechanical, electrical, heating and air conditioning/HVAC systems
Three (3) years of professional experience directing the work of employees and outside contractors engaged in the operation and maintenance of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems
Three (3) years of experience taking utility readings, logging records, ensuring maintenance schedules are followed, reviewing and actioning maintenance reports for technical stationary engineering power plant building systems
Three (3) years of experience diagnosing building and mechanical issues, recognizing potentially dangerous situations, and implementing appropriate emergency responses
Three (3) years of specialized experience in public health Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and building codes of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems
Three (3) years of experience following and expressing complex ideas clearly both orally and in written form in the field of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems
