Use your leadership skills and law enforcement experience as a State Patrol Sergeant! The Division of State Patrol is seeking talented individuals for a State Patrol Sergeant position. This position is headquartered at the Spooner Post in the Northwest Region. This position will supervise a work unit in Washburn, Burnett, Douglas, Bayfield, and Ashland counties.
Job Responsibility:
Direct and supervise State Patrol Troopers and Inspectors responsible for law enforcement goals and objectives
Assist in developing, implementing, and managing short-range and long-range programs
Rotate as district duty supervisor by monitoring and directing operational activities
Provide public relations liaison duties with the public, other law enforcement agencies, and the media
Provide technical expertise relating to traffic law enforcement, policy analysis, short-range and mid-range program planning, program implementation, and program evaluation
Prepare budget issue papers and write research reports
Recommend policy and program improvements
Requirements:
Successful completion of the 'Cadet' training program at the State Patrol Academy located at Fort McCoy, WI and is certified as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer (or eligible for immediate recertification)
Completion of the State Patrol Trooper/ Inspector probationary period
Knowledge of traffic laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to motor vehicle operation
Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to traffic law enforcement
knowledge of criminal law
Knowledge of judicial procedures and practices including: theory and method investigatory techniques, extent and limits of statutory arrest and use of force authority
Knowledge of supervisory principles, techniques, and methods to monitor and evaluate employee performance
Interpersonal skills
Knowledge of the National Incident Management System/ Incident Command System
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the development and presentation of training materials
