ESI’s Refrigeration Commissioning Technician supports supermarket and grocery refrigeration projects. This role is responsible for commissioning, startup, checkout, troubleshooting, and system optimization of commercial refrigeration systems in live retail environments. The ideal candidate is efficient, highly knowledgeable in market refrigeration systems, and capable of leading commissioning efforts while coordinating with construction, controls, and the manufacturers technical support teams.
Job Responsibility:
Commission and startup commercial market refrigeration systems, including refrigeration racks, supermarket display cases, walk-in coolers and freezers, and associated refrigeration controls and valves
Perform full site refrigeration checkout procedures prior to turnover
Execute refrigerant recovery, system pump-downs, evacuations, and charging
Troubleshoot refrigeration systems including rack compressors, refrigeration valves, EPR valves, EEVs, and suction, liquid, and discharge circuits
Configure, set up, and verify proper operation of EPR valves, electronic expansion valves (EEVs), and refrigeration control strategies
Troubleshoot and verify refrigeration control systems, including Copeland, Danfoss, NOVAR, Honeywell, and other market control platforms
Interpret and work from construction drawings, refrigeration plans, electrical one-line diagrams, and equipment wiring schematics
Perform refrigerant leak detection and repair
Braze refrigeration piping in accordance with industry standards
Coordinate with manufacturers and technical support teams as needed
Lead and support refrigeration teams during commissioning activities
Document commissioning results, deficiencies, and corrective actions
Support training and mentorship of current refrigeration team members
Requirements:
EPA 608 Universal Certification
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Minimum 5 years of commercial market refrigeration service experience
Minimum 2 years of market refrigeration construction experience
Strong understanding of how supermarket refrigeration systems operate as an integrated system
Proven troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines
Ability to work independently and lead commissioning efforts in the field
Willingness to travel outside place of residence
Willingness to work nights as required for commissioning activities
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members, vendors, and management
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations
Effective and professional communication and interaction with supervisors, employees, clients, and others, whether individually or in a team environment
Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment guidelines, and company policies
Ability to lift and/or move materials and tools up to 50lbs
