Job Description:

The CTS Enterprise Analytics Services organization is seeking a skilled and proactive Starburst Admin Operations Lead to manage, maintain, and optimize our enterprise data query platform based on Starburst Enterprise. This individual will be responsible for ensuring high availability, security, and performance of the platform, supporting enterprise-wide analytics, and enabling efficient data access across multiple business units. The candidate must have experience with complex applications, architectures, and technologies that integrate with the complex data ecosystems. The individual will contribute to the operations, architecture, engineering, and deliver the best-in-class services.

Job Responsibility:

Administering, supporting, governing and maintaining Starburst software
Installing, configuring, and managing Starburst software
Managing system availability, reliability, and failover strategies
Implementing and tuning resource groups, query limits, and optimization rules
Handling large scale data sources in an optimized manner
Monitoring Starburst servers’ activity/usage statistics
Cluster tuning, monitoring and optimization of query plans
Updating cluster configuration files and catalog properties
Collecting, debugging, and analyzing logs and Java thread dumps
Defining UDFs using custom binary files/code
Building and supporting materialized views
Troubleshooting Starburst issues related to user access, query failures, and performance
Managing user access, authentication, and role-based access control
Ensuring audit logging, compliance with enterprise security and data privacy policies
Configuring and maintaining catalogs for diverse data sources
Troubleshooting data lake or warehouse connectivity issues
Integrating Starburst with SAS/Tableau tools
Leading incident responses and root cause analyses
Developing and maintaining SOPs and runbooks
Ensuring disaster recovery and testing backup strategies
Forecasting platform capacity requirements
Tracking and optimizing usage costs in cloud environments
Automating cluster provisioning, monitoring, and operations
Integrating platform with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code tools
CyberArk onboarding and maintenance of the Starburst services
Providing L3/L4 support for Starburst as subject matter expert
Publishing best practices, recommendations, and deployment patterns
Creating project plans, impact analyses, and resolutions post-disaster
Driving root cause analysis to prevent future disruptions
Designing testing approaches and automation for repetitive tasks
Acting as technical advisor to team members
Developing tools and best practices for analytics benchmarking

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
8+ years IT experience in the areas of Starburst and BI Tools Administration
5+ years of Linux, Shell scripting experience
Starburst Certified Practitioner certification
Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Kubernetes-based deployments
Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration abilities
Good team player interested in sharing knowledge and cross-training other team members and shows interest in learning new technologies and products
Should be flexible, hardworking, self-motivated and have a positive outlook with the ability to take on difficult initiatives and challenges
Ability to prioritize, organize, make decisions, and solve problems while working under pressure
Self-starter who works with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a team of diverse skills and geographies
