Job Description

Tired of just applying standards... but never truly influencing them? What if you could shape how safety, compliance, and technical standards are defined across a major international engineering business. Why this role might be worth a conversation: If you’re currently frustrated by regulations that don’t match reality, or limited to applying standards rather than shaping them, this opportunity offers a chance to take proactively leadership within a complex safety critical environment that has a variety of innovation programmes and new regulatory landscapes to maneuver. Here, your decisions will directly influence safety, risk, and operations at scale for now and the future. What you’ll get: - Real influence: shape technical and safety decisions across a large organisation - Senior exposure: direct engagement with senior business leadership (Director level & board) and external regulators - Complex challenges: cross-border/international regulation, interoperability, safety systems - Strategic visibility: working with a variety of regulatory authorities across the industry, acting as the main POC for UK regulation - Opportunity to lead change and evolve standards. What you’ll be doing: - Translate regulatory frameworks into operational standards - Lead gap analysis between regulation and practice - Define risk-based decisions and compliance strategies - Act as a key interface with safety authorities - Support governance boards and decision-making forums. Who this role suits: - Technical Assurance / Authority professionals - Engineering Governance / Standards leaders - Safety & compliance specialists (rail, nuclear, infrastructure, aviation, defence). Why this is different: Most roles ask you to follow standards. This role gives you the platform to define them, challenge them, and gain regulatory recognition. We are looking for someone who interprets, challenges, and defines how standards are applied — and gets buy-in from regulators and leadership to make a real difference.
