Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented SR/Staff Accountant to join a team in Monmouth County, New Jersey on a Long-term Contract basis. This opportunity is well suited for someone who enjoys bringing structure to complex financial records, strengthening accuracy across the balance sheet, and contributing to a more organized accounting operation. The role calls for strong analytical judgment, confidence working through inconsistent data, and the ability to communicate findings clearly with accounting and finance partners.

Job Responsibility

  • Reconcile a broad range of balance sheet accounts and investigate variances to ensure financial records are complete and accurate
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries related to cleanup activities, month-end support, and ongoing accounting operations
  • Examine large sets of financial information to detect irregularities, trace root causes, and recommend corrective action
  • Resolve legacy accounting issues by researching historical transactions and organizing supporting documentation for proper treatment
  • Support accounting process enhancements and assist with operational changes tied to evolving financial systems and workflows
  • Use advanced Excel tools, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis features, to organize, compare, and validate accounting data
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting colleagues to improve reporting quality, reconciliation processes, and overall control over financial information
  • Communicate reconciliation results, accounting logic, and outstanding issues in a clear manner to team members and stakeholders
  • Provide dependable accounting support during a period of organizational change while helping maintain continuity in daily financial activities

Requirements

  • Proven experience performing balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and general ledger review work
  • Strong hands-on background preparing and posting journal entries in a detail-focused accounting environment
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data querying or analytical techniques
  • Experience working with ERP or mid-market accounting systems
  • exposure to Microsoft Dynamics is highly preferred
  • Ability to evaluate incomplete, disorganized, or high-volume financial data and turn it into accurate, actionable information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain accounting processes and findings to others
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving setting with shifting priorities and evolving business needs
  • Prior experience with forensic-style accounting, historical cleanup projects, or complex reconciliation work is a strong advantage
