An opportunity has arisen for a Staff Specialist Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join a well-established service in Tasmania, Australia. The role involves delivering comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological care across inpatient and outpatient settings, with participation in on-call services. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality, patient-centred care while supporting multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical governance, and ongoing service development.
Job Responsibility
Provide consultant-led care in Obstetrics and Gynaecology across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings
Manage antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, including high-risk obstetric cases
Deliver comprehensive gynaecological services, including assessment, treatment, and procedural care
Participate in on-call rotas, including emergency obstetric and gynaecological care
Work collaboratively with midwives, nursing staff, anaesthetists, paediatricians, and allied health professionals
Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions and coordinated patient management
Provide supervision, mentorship, and support to junior medical staff
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to safety and regulatory standards
Contribute to teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students
Requirements
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Registration and licensing must remain current and valid at all times during employment
Experience working at Consultant / Staff Specialist level or equivalent
Broad experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, including emergency and on-call care
Ability to manage complex obstetric and gynaecological cases independently
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Strong clinical judgement and decision-making ability
Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
Ability to perform effectively in acute and high-pressure environments
Commitment to patient safety, quality care, and continuous professional development
Nice to have
Fellowship or equivalent specialist qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Subspecialty interest aligned to service needs
Experience in service development or clinical leadership roles
