Job Description

The Staff Solutions Architect is Temporal's primary customer-facing technical leader within the Growth team. In this crucial role, you’ll work directly with prospects and customers, guiding them in understanding the suitability of their applications for Temporal’s platform and showcasing the technical advantages of our cloud service. Your contribution is vital in positioning Temporal against alternative technologies, helping customer engineering teams expand production applications using Temporal, and owning the technical relationship with key decision-makers. Your role is integral to our success.

Job Responsibility

  • Collaborate with prospects to determine if their applications fit Temporal’s platform well
  • Educate customers and prospects on the technical benefits and limitations of Temporal’s platform and cloud service
  • Position Temporal effectively in architectures involving LLMs, agents, event-driven systems, and data platforms, clarifying where Temporal adds value vs. alternatives
  • Advise customers on applying Temporal to AI/ML-driven workflows, including model training pipelines, inference orchestration, agent-based systems, and human-in-the-loop processes
  • Position Temporal as a leading solution against competing technologies and architectural patterns
  • Foster an environment within customer engineering organizations to increase the adoption and expansion of Temporal in production environments
  • Partner closely with Account Executives to develop and execute comprehensive account plans
  • Manage and nurture relationships with technical decision-makers within customer organizations, ensuring they fully leverage Temporal’s capabilities.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with AI/ML system architectures, such as training pipelines, batch vs. online inference, RAG systems, and agent orchestration
  • Experience integrating applications with model APIs or AI platforms (e.g., OpenAI/Anthropic-style APIs, managed ML services, vector databases)
  • Understanding of operational concerns for AI systems in production, including model versioning, latency, cost control, reliability, and failure modes
  • Exceptional technical communication skills, including presenting, whiteboarding, and writing
  • Deep understanding of distributed system technologies, design principles, and best practices
  • Proficiency in building application prototypes and providing design, development, build, and deployment guidance using one or more of Temporal’s supported languages: Java, Golang, TypeScript, Python, C# or PHP
  • Firm grasp of operational considerations in production environments, such as security, reliability, performance, cost management, and operations
  • Ability to provide insightful advice on architectural topics, including application patterns and platform architectures
  • Experience with at least one major cloud provider and familiarity with commonly used application development and production services
  • Serve as a strategic technical advisor to Sales Account Executives, assisting with scoping and sizing opportunities and offering guidance on technical fit and challenges.

  • Hands-on experience building or operating LLM-based or ML-powered applications in production
  • Experience with AI workflow orchestration patterns, including multi-step inference, evaluation loops, and human approval flows.
