At Cloudera, we empower people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights. With as much data under management as the hyperscalers, we're the preferred data partner for the top companies in almost every industry. Powered by the relentless innovation of the open source community, Cloudera advances digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises. The Anywhere Cloud (AWC) team is building Cloudera’s next-generation unified control plane. We are moving beyond traditional UI-driven workflows to an "AI-First" architecture. AWC enables the deployment of Data Services (like Spark, Trino, and Cloudera AI) across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Our platform orchestrates complex Kubernetes infrastructures, foundational services (Service Mesh, Auth, Logging), and data engines. As a Staff Software Engineer in Test, you will not just write tests; you will architect the automation framework and tools that validates a highly distributed, multi-cluster control plane. You will own the test strategy for AWC—validating it both as an application installed via Taikun and as a platform that orchestrates other clusters. You will define how we verify Zero-Trust security models, API-first contracts, and cross-cluster resource management.
Job Responsibility
Design and build a scalable test automation framework capable of handling AWC’s multi-cluster architecture
Champion an API-first testing strategy
Automate the validation of our Zero-Trust security model
Act as the prime technical contact for quality within the AWC organization
Define testing standards, mentor senior engineers (IC2/IC3), and influence design decisions to ensure testability is baked into the architecture from day one
Partner with the Taikun (Kubernetes) and Foundational Services teams to integrate their components into the AWC test matrix
Requirements
Ability to learn and develop AI enabled test automation frameworks
Deep understanding of Kubernetes internals (CRDs, Controllers, Operators, Namespaces)
You must understand how to debug and test complex Helm chart deployments and dependencies
Expert-level proficiency in Python/Shell for scripting and automation
Experience testing Service Meshes (Istio Ambient Mode preferred), Ingress Gateways, and OCI registries
Experience testing authentication flows (OIDC, OAuth2) and infrastructure security
Understanding of certificates, mTLS, and secrets management
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
10+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on test automation, infrastructure, or backend development
