As a Staff Engineer in the team, you will have the opportunity to shape, transform, and create an exceptional experience for engineers at Marqeta. You will boost developers' productivity through the successful adoption of streamlined SDLC tools & services, AI-driven tools, and drive engagement across Marqeta engineering.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment and craft of your team’s projects, ensuring the delivered solutions are highly relevant to developer productivity and happiness
Promote and influence a data-driven culture across the organization
Use objective measurement as the primary means of communication, guiding project execution and decision making, and tracking progress
Advocate and articulate your vision, key results and product strategy in simple and clear narratives
Build relationships across Engineering
Conduct regular DevEx surveys within Marqeta, use developers' feedback to build and prioritize a strategy and roadmap for your team, and for products that may span multiple teams and the entire company
Use your extensive technical expertise to mentor engineers, to promote developer productivity within your team and across Marqeta
Drive both the tactical and strategic roadmap for Marqeta Engineering, using data and customer feedback to increase efficiency, improve effectiveness, and meaningfully reduce operational toil across the organization
Establish and foster a data-driven engineering culture
Develop superior tooling and metrics to understand the health of our entire SDLC systems
Engage with key stakeholders across engineering and leverage data to establish objective measurement of Inner and Outer Loop Latency
Conduct DevEx surveys across the engineering organization in Marqeta, collect and analyze feedback and define areas of execution to achieve world-class developer experience for all Marqeta engineering teams
Ship services and tools that delight our customers
Work with your direct and adjacent teams to deliver a delightful developer experience
Mentor and direct junior engineers to build scalable and self-serviceable solutions
Requirements:
10+ years of solid programming experience in Java, Python, Go, or similar programming languages to build large-scale distributed systems
BA/BS Degree or higher in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or related practical experience
Experience and deep understanding of effective and efficient SDLC workflows, particularly developer-oriented workflows
Hands-on experience in developing developer infrastructure, services, and workflows
Deep experience in driving vision, roadmap, and adoption of Developer Portal products such as Backstage
Experience with build systems such as Gradle, Maven, or Make
Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment tools such as CodeBuild, Jenkins, CircleCI or Github Actions
Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible), and experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS)
Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana
Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to communicate technical strategy and roadmap in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
