Job Description:

Join us in building the future of finance. Our mission is to democratize finance for all. We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world’s biggest financial problems. The Crypto Custody team’s mission is to build a world-class custody platform that supports both custodial and non-custodial blockchain products with exceptional security and reliability. We are responsible for Robinhood’s core crypto custody infrastructure, and our work directly supports new products, assets, and global expansion efforts! As a Staff Engineer, you will architect and scale secure systems for digital asset custody, transforming manual operations into automated, policy-driven infrastructure. You’ll lead high-stakes custody initiatives, drive system-wide reliability and compliance, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the secure handling of digital assets at scale.

Job Responsibility:

  • Own and scale Robinhood’s custodial and non-custodial programs, building secure infrastructure for new assets, products, and markets
  • Drive reliability, scalability, and automation across all custody operations, transforming manual processes into resilient, policy-driven systems
  • Design and implement robust custody services including transaction signing, policy enforcement, reconciliation, and monitoring
  • Partner cross-functionally with infrastructure, security, compliance, finance, and risk teams to execute secure and compliant custody operations
  • Lead secure key ceremonies and physical custody processes with the highest standards of precision and audit readiness

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience building and scaling blockchain custody systems in regulated environments
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Go with strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes)
  • Deep familiarity with multisignature and MPC custody systems, including practical experience with HSMs and custody vendors
  • In-depth knowledge of blockchain protocols including UTXO-based (e.g., Bitcoin) and account-based (e.g., Ethereum, Solana) models
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with a documentation-first, security-conscious approach
What we offer:
  • Performance-driven compensation with multipliers for outsized impact, bonus programs, equity ownership, and 401(k) matching
  • 100% paid health insurance for employees with 90% coverage for dependents
  • Lifestyle wallet — a highly flexible benefits spending account for wellness, learning, and more
  • Employer-paid life & disability insurance, fertility benefits, and mental health support
  • Time off to recharge including company holidays, paid time off, sick time, parental leave, and more
  • Exceptional office experience with catered meals, events, and comfortable workspaces
