Lead the architecture, design, development, and evolution of core Android platform and SystemUI capabilities for GM’s infotainment stack
Own technical direction across platform areas such as SystemUI, UI framework integrations, platform services, and vehicle-aware user experience behavior
Drive scalable platform solutions that enable multiple teams and product areas rather than solving only local feature needs
Define and enforce engineering patterns, interfaces, and best practices that improve maintainability, testability, quality, and long-term platform health
Collaborate closely with GM’s internal design organization to translate product and UX intent into robust platform behavior and reusable technical solutions
Integrate platform components with Android framework, Car Service APIs, Vehicle HAL, and related system signals to enable context-aware in-vehicle experiences
Debug and resolve complex issues spanning AOSP, SystemUI, framework, middleware, and native layers
Lead technical investigations, root-cause analysis, and cross-functional problem solving for difficult platform and production issues
Drive Android platform dessert (Pastry) upgrades and forward-port GM platform customizations across releases
Influence capability planning, technical roadmaps, and platform investment decisions across teams
Improve platform performance, boot time, memory usage, reliability, and software quality on automotive hardware
Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, raise the technical bar across the team, and provide leadership through design reviews, architecture reviews, and hands-on implementation
Requirements
Extensive experience developing and customizing Android platform software, with deep hands-on expertise in SystemUI and/or Android UI framework internals
Strong understanding of Android architecture, system services, framework layers, and platform-level design tradeoffs
Significant experience with AOSP and Android Automotive OS (AAOS)
Proven ability to lead technical direction across broad and complex problem spaces that span multiple teams or domains
Experience working with Android HMI, XML-based UI development, and modern UI technologies such as Jetpack Compose
Experience integrating platform software with Android framework APIs, Car Service APIs, and vehicle-aware system behavior
Experience debugging complex issues across framework, SystemUI, platform services, and native layers
Experience improving test coverage, code quality, build reliability, and engineering standards in large-scale Android or AOSP environments
Experience with CI/CD pipelines in large-scale Android or platform development organizations
Familiarity with static analysis and code quality tools such as SonarQube
Experience working in Ubuntu-based development environments with tools such as Jira, GitHub, and Figma
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across internal and external stakeholders
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field

Experience shipping Android Automotive infotainment systems in production vehicles
Experience with Vehicle HAL, Car Property APIs, calibration-aware behaviors, and other vehicle integration layers
Experience working on multi-display and multi-user automotive systems
Experience maintaining or contributing to custom AOSP forks
Experience driving Android platform upgrades, version migrations, and long-term platform maintenance
Contributions to AOSP and/or AAOS codebases, especially in SystemUI, framework, or platform components
Experience working with automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, Google, Bosch, or similar ecosystem partners
Experience using Google Partner Issue Tracker (Buganizer) to report, track, and resolve AOSP or AAOS issues
Knowledge of Android security model, permissions architecture, and platform hardening considerations
Experience practicing test-driven development and writing unit, integration, and instrumentation tests
Experience evaluating and applying AI- or automation-assisted engineering approaches in ways that improve developer productivity and platform quality without compromising production standards
