Job Description

At Harvey, we’re transforming how legal and professional services operate — not incrementally, but end-to-end. By combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise, we’re reshaping how critical knowledge work gets done for decades to come. This is a rare chance to help build a generational company at a true inflection point. With 1000+ customers in 58+ countries, strong product-market fit, and world-class investor support, we’re scaling fast and defining a new category in real time. The work is ambitious, the bar is high, and the opportunity for growth — personal, professional, and financial — is unmatched. Our team is sharp, motivated, and deeply committed to the mission. We move fast, operate with intensity, and take real ownership of the problems we tackle — from early thinking to long-term outcomes. We stay close to our customers — from leadership to engineers — and work together to solve real problems with urgency and care. If you thrive in ambiguity, push for excellence, and want to help shape the future of work alongside others who raise the bar, we invite you to build with us. At Harvey, the future of professional services is being written today — and we’re just getting started. As a Staff UI Motion Designer, you will define how motion shapes the experience of Harvey. Motion is not an afterthought. It is a core layer of the interface that guides users, clarifies AI behavior, expresses system state, and reinforces confidence in complex flows. You will partner with product designers, engineers, AI researchers, and brand to craft motion that is purposeful, scalable, and contextual across the platform. In this role you will operate as both a strategic thinker and hands-on maker. You will establish motion standards that scale with product complexity, advocate for motion’s role in user understanding and trust, and deliver polished animations embedded throughout interactions where language, AI reasoning, and user control converge. In an AI-native product, motion is a primary communication layer. it helps users understand what the system is doing, what it is thinking, and what will happen next. Well-designed motion conveys progress, intention, and confidence in moments where static UI falls short. It reduces friction, increases trust, and makes complex AI interactions feel understandable and controllable.

Job Responsibility

  • Define and evolve motion principles, patterns, timing rules, curves, and easing standards that support clarity, trust, and comprehension of AI systems
  • Design, prototype, and ship high-fidelity ui motion that clarifies system state, communicates progress, and reduces cognitive load in complex workflows
  • Collaborate closely with product designers, engineers, and AI researchers to align motion with interaction intent and underlying system behavior
  • Influence product and engineering to prioritize motion design within the roadmap
  • Define and own motion guidelines and rules within the design system, including reusable components, documentation, and implementation guidelines
  • Translate abstract AI behaviors such as inference, reasoning, waiting, confirmation, and error states into intuitive and legible motion
  • Advocate for motion quality during design reviews and product decisions, balancing craft, performance, and scalability

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in UI motion design, interaction design, and animation
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating thoughtful motion design in complex product environments
  • Deep understanding of motion principles, timing, easing, and how movement affects user perception, cognition, and trust
  • Experience building or contributing to motion systems that scale across products and teams
  • Fluency with modern motion and prototyping tools that translates to UI (ie Lottie and SVG animations)
  • Ability to clearly articulate motion decisions and tradeoffs to designers, engineers, and cross-functional partners, and work closely with engineers on implementation
  • Comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces and shaping direction through experimentation and iteration

What we offer

  • Offers Equity
  • Offers Bonus
  • Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage
  • retirement benefits (401k match up to 4%)
  • flexible PTO
