Job Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and flexible nurse to join our small team of specialist ophthalmic nurses. Based in the paediatric ophthalmic outpatient department at Sheffield Children's Hospital, the role also includes supporting ophthalmology clinics at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Ophthalmology is a rewarding and dynamic specialty with strong links to inpatient services, the emergency department, and acute admissions.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide skilled, autonomous nursing care in line with the NMC Code of Conduct
  • Support the ongoing development of nursing practice, including supervising junior nurses and support staff
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their needs and voices are heard
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate care for an allocated patient group, using prioritisation and delegation effectively

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma Level Education as Registered Nurse (RN Child or RSCN)
  • Current registration with NMC
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to professional development
  • Willingness to undertake Trust Band 5 competency pathway
  • Principles of Safeguarding of children
  • Role of Staff Nurse
  • Accountability and Own limitations
  • Health & Safety Safe Practices e.g. Moving and Handling, Sharps, COSHH
  • Principles of Infection Control
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to respect the cultural, social and religious diversity within society
  • Able to use own initiative
  • Good decision making skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Basic IT skills & use of Microsoft Word

  • Teaching, mentoring and Assessors qualification
