Job Description:

Staff Engineer role at Heidi Health, building an AI Care Partner that supports clinicians. The role focuses on owning foundational systems like authentication and designing scalable, reliable infrastructure.

Job Responsibility:

  • Own foundational systems: Define and execute technical strategy for the platforms that underpin our product—starting with authentication, then expanding to other critical infrastructure as business needs evolve
  • Design for scale and performance: Build low-latency, high-reliability services using distributed caching, multi-region architecture, and modern protocols (OIDC, gRPC) so platform capabilities never bottleneck product teams
  • Architect for the long term: Make thoughtful trade-offs between immediate delivery and ecosystem health, designing systems that remain maintainable as complexity grows
  • Treat internal engineers as your customer: Create developer-friendly abstractions, SDKs, and tooling that make the right patterns easy to adopt across the organization
  • Elevate engineering standards: Conduct high-level design reviews, mentor senior engineers, and drive practices that prevent tech debt before it starts
  • Lead through ambiguity: Take complex, cross-cutting problems from whiteboard to production, partnering with leadership to translate business priorities into technical direction

Requirements:

  • Track record architecting distributed systems, microservices, and multi-region infrastructure
  • Experience building and scaling identity/auth systems (OAuth, OIDC, SAML, SSO, MFA) strongly preferred but not a requirement
  • Strong full-stack capability with backend depth (Python & TypeScript preferred, not required)
  • Demonstrated technical leadership—setting direction, not just shipping code
  • Instinct for reliability, security, and performance trade-offs at scale
  • Experience designing internal platforms or developer tools that other teams depend on
  • Comfort operating at the intersection of architecture, execution, and influence
What we offer:
  • Additional paid day off for your birthday and wellness days
  • A generous personal development budget of $500 per annum
  • Learn from some of the best engineers and creatives, joining a diverse team
  • The rare chance to create a global impact as you immerse yourself in one of Australia’s leading healthtech startups
  • If you have an impact quickly, the opportunity to fast track your startup career
  • Help us reimagine primary care and change the face of healthcare in Australia and then around the world
