We are looking for a detail-oriented public audit specialist to support performance reviews of government programs and agencies in Raleigh, North Carolina. This contract opportunity offers the chance to evaluate how public resources are used, assess operational results, and contribute recommendations that strengthen accountability and service delivery. Job Responsibility:
Lead or support performance audit engagements covering state agencies, public programs, and municipal operations from planning through final reporting
Examine program goals, workflows, and measurable results to determine whether services are operating efficiently and achieving intended outcomes
Gather, validate, and interpret both numerical and narrative information to assess performance, compliance, and use of resources
Identify operational risks, control weaknesses, and improvement opportunities, then translate findings into practical recommendations
Draft organized audit reports that clearly explain observations, conclusions, and proposed corrective actions
Present audit results to leadership groups and other stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner
Work closely with internal team members and audited entities to obtain information, clarify issues, and maintain productive working relationships
Apply government auditing standards and established methodologies throughout fieldwork, analysis, and documentation
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline
Advanced academic credentials are valued, though they are not required for consideration
Exposure to auditing, program evaluation, performance measurement, or analytical review work is helpful but not mandatory
Understanding of government audit practices, internal controls, or public-sector oversight processes is preferred
Strong analytical thinking with the ability to investigate issues, interpret data, and solve problems effectively
Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex findings to varied audiences
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
experience with data analysis tools is an advantage
