The Bond Planning & Construction Staff Architect provides architectural and project management expertise to support District staff and construction project managers in overseeing the planning, design, technical review, and budgeting of facility projects delivered by architects, engineers, and consultants. The role analyzes existing facility data; evaluates design documents at each development phase for alignment with District educational and technical specifications, federal and state building codes, and ADA standards; and provides construction oversight for bond-funded new construction and renovation projects.
Job Responsibility:
Lead, define, and develop facility designs by applying expert knowledge and interpretation of local, state, and federal codes and standards, including the currently adopted ICC International Codes and ADA Standards for Accessible Design
Perform detailed analysis, interpretation, and review of project development throughout all phases of design and construction, including programming, schematic design, design development, contract documentation, and construction administration
Negotiate and administer contracts for design and construction services
Perform architectural reviews and field inspections to confirm compliance with construction documents, applicable codes, and design intent
Collaborate with District leadership to understand, maintain, and update the District’s long-range facilities plans
Support in collecting, analyzing, managing, and organizing data related to District facilities
Provide leadership to design and construction project teams by establishing clear expectations for design quality, constructability, and safety
Maintain and aid in updating District’s Educational Specifications and Technical Guidelines
Monitor budget cost control through established policies, procedures and techniques
Review, verify, and authorize architect, contractor and consultant pay applications
Establish and manage project budgets through cost estimating relationships with contracted engineers, historical costs, estimating manuals and contractor bids and proposals
Conduct post-occupancy reviews
Leverage the architectural expertise of a licensed architect to support Bond Project Managers in design document reviews
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or related field
Minimum of seven years of experience in building design and construction Industry, preferably in Pre-K through 12 education buildings, including site planning and construction administration
Must have a valid driver's license
Must have an active architectural license
Completed and submitted BVSD online application
Nice to have:
Master's degree in architecture
Knowledge of CAD/BIM software, project management platforms
Advanced skills in architectural planning and design, building systems, codes, and construction methods including life safety and accessibility
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and scheduling software
knowledge and ability to use design platforms (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Archibus, and/or drafting software)
Ability to perform technical analysis of design documents, specifications, and cost data
Understanding of accounting principles and ability to demonstrate working knowledge of accounting reports
Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, building and department procedures
Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
