The Financial Times is seeking a diligent and analytical Staff Accountant to support general accounting operations and financial controls within a global media organization. This role plays a key part in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supporting month-end close, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting principles, hands-on general ledger experience, and a continuous improvement attitude.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and post journal entries
analyze and resolve discrepancies to ensure accurate and complete general ledger records
Support daily accounting operations and maintain full-cycle accounting activities for multiple legal entities
Reconcile and post payroll in Oracle Fusion
Support timely month-end and year-end close activities, including reconciliations, schedules, and analytical review of balance sheet accounts
Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations for accounts across multiple legal entities
Participate in the review of balance sheet reconciliations across the organization to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal control requirements
Review intercompany balances within the FT group and assist with intercompany settlements
Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and maintained in compliance with FT global accounting policies and internal control requirements
Find opportunities to improve and automate accounting processes to strengthen financial controls and operational efficiency
Collaborate with Global Finance and cross-functional teams on initiatives and ad-hoc projects as needed
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience in public accounting and/or industry
CPA designation preferred or actively pursuing CPA
Good understanding of accounting principles, with the ability to apply standards and internal policies to routine and moderately complex transactions
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, Power Query, complex formulas, automation via macros a plus)
Experience working with ERP systems
Oracle Fusion experience preferred
Ability to understand end-to-end business processes and assess their impact on the financial statements
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team-oriented environment
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and explain accounting issues
