We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a commercial real estate portfolio in Texas. This contract opportunity has the potential to become a long-term role and is ideal for an accounting specialist who is comfortable managing multiple entities, maintaining accurate financial records, and handling recurring monthly close activities. The role centers on property-related accounting, rent collections, fixed asset tracking, and reconciliations, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and organization.
Job Responsibility
Manage day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of commercial real estate properties across multiple locations, ensuring complete and accurate financial records
Oversee rent collection activity, record cash receipts, and coordinate payment setup processes for tenants and related entities
Perform monthly bookkeeping for several legal entities, maintaining organized records and supporting timely financial reporting
Prepare and post journal entries related to recurring transactions, accruals, depreciation, and amortization as part of the month-end close process
Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank activity, and balance sheet accounts to identify discrepancies and maintain reporting accuracy
Produce and review financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets, to support ongoing business operations
Maintain fixed asset schedules by recording additions, monitoring asset activity, and calculating depreciation expense
Use Excel to analyze accounting data, organize reporting, and support reconciliations through tools such as PivotTables and VLOOKUPs
Requirements
3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property accounting, real estate accounting, or a multi-entity environment
Hands-on experience with journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close responsibilities
Strong background in balance sheet, bank, and account reconciliations with careful attention to detail
Experience preparing financial reports such as balance sheets and income statements
Knowledge of fixed asset accounting, including asset tracking, additions, depreciation, and amortization
Proficiency in Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and other commonly used formulas and functions
Experience with rent collections, cash application, and commercial property-related accounting activities
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred
